Patio Furniture

We recently put a deck on the west side of our home. We thought this would be a great place to entertain guests, as well as to watch the sunsets from in the evenings. Part of the deck is shaded and the rest is in the sun. We wanted to purchase patio furniture that would be functional and comfortable for the space.

... found the chairs uncomfortable, or the pieces were too large for our storage area ...

We went to several stores that feature patio furniture. We wanted to have comfortable chairs as well as a table that we could use to eat meals and play cards. There was a wide variety of tables. There were several high topped tables similar to those in bar settings. The chairs were bar stools. Some had backs and others did not. We were considering the high top table and stools with backs; however we decided that the high table would block our view of the sunsets from the house. We were also concerned that the patio furniture would be too noticeable from the road. We found that some of the comfortable chairs sat back too far from the table to eat comfortably or to play cards. At first glance there seemed to be a large selection of patio furniture, but as we tried out the different models we eliminated each for one reason or another. We either found the chairs uncomfortable, or the pieces were too large for our storage area. We live in an area with harsh winter months so the furniture needs to be stored. On our first shopping trip for patio furniture we did not purchase any.

... used unique antique pieces of wood to create sturdy patio furniture that could withstand the elements in the winter ...

We went to an arts and crafts fair at a local festival. We were not looking for patio furniture, but this is where we found what we were looking for. One vendor used unique antique pieces of wood to create sturdy patio furniture that could withstand the elements in the winter. He collected the wood from all over the world. Some of the tables were made from wood that had previously been used in ox carts in Viet Nam. There was wood from ancient Japan and other countries. He also had teak wood and other tropical woods that are exposed to high moisture and extreme weather conditions. The chairs were also made from wood and were very comfortable to sit on. The patio furniture was very heavy so we did not have to be concerned of it blowing away in the wind. We purchased a teak wood set that came with a table and four chairs. There was also a matching bench that could be used separately and also pulled up to the table to create seating for six people around the table.

We love our patio furniture. It is unique, comfortable and does not have to be stored in the winter months.
