Couch Cover

My son and two of his buddies are going to be living in off campus housing this year.  They found a small house that was for rent. They have agreed to keep up the yard and make some minor repairs to the house, so the rent is very cheap.  My son asked if he could use the sofa that we have stored in our basement. I told him that the upholstery was very poor on it so it looked bad. We went down and looked at the couch. It is a very comfortable couch but it has a floral print that has faded and is worn in places. My son said he would throw a blanket over it and that it was better than nothing. I decided to find a couch cover.  My mom had covered her sofa when I was growing up. I remembered that each time you got up you had to straighten the slip cover. I was hoping that the quality in couch covers has improved over the years.

I had a catalog from a major department store, so I looked through their selections for a couch cover. I was glad that I had started with the catalog because they had instructions on how to measure your furniture to insure that you get the right size. The couch cover you purchase depends on the style cushions, arms and back the couch has. Our couch has removable cushions so we could buy one of the covers that have zipped covers for the cushions. The rest of the couch is then covered with a matching material that is pulled and tucked into place.

I took my measurements and went to a local store that specializes in linens and towels. I told the sales clerk that I was looking for a cover for our sofa. She said that they did have several to choose from and one of them came with a video that explained how to put it on. I thought that a couch cover that comes with its own video must be quite complicated. This couch cover was the style that had zipped covers for the cushions. The rest of the fabric is held in place by plastic rods that are positioned under the cushions. The fabric was available in a variety of colors and it came with a stain resistant finish. I told her that I wanted to watch the video in the store prior to purchasing the couch cover so that I would not have any surprises when I got home. They had the video all set up for this reason.  Several customers remember the slip covers that they grew up with and wanted to avoid the constant rearranging. By showing the video of the new couch cover system people were more apt to buy.

I purchased the couch cover and the video and gave them to my son. He liked the color and was impressed that he could watch the video to arrange the fabric.
