Clear Plastic Bags

I am in the process of trying to organize my home. I think that my life will be simpler if I have things in order. I decided to start with my kitchen area. My thought was that if I have a kitchen that is better organized my meal preparations will take less time. If I am spending less time preparing meals I will have additional time to organize other areas of the home. I started by going to the store to purchase containers, space savers and other supplies that I thought would help in the project.

... The rectangle acts as a stand for the clear plastic bags, so they stay upright ...

I went to a kitchen store that sells many organization aides. I explained to the clerk that I have a small kitchen and very limited counter space, so I did not want to purchase canisters, but I did want to have something for my staples, flour, sugar, spices and so forth. She suggested using clear plastic bags. She then showed me the newest product that they have in the store. The simple product is a plastic rectangle that you place in the bottom of clear plastic bags. The rectangle acts as a stand for the clear plastic bags, so they stay upright. This can be used with standard clear plastic bags, or you can purchase bags that are of heavier weight that are made to go with the stands. The clear plastic bags that come with the stands have the easy close zipper tops as well as a pressed seal. The double sealing system as well as the heavier plastic was intended to last longer than the average clear plastic bags. There were a number of sizes of rectangles as well as several sizes of clear plastic bags. The clerk said she stores cereal this way so her children can see the selection and she knows when she is running low. I decided to purchase several sizes of the rectangles as well as the clear plastic bags. I also found stackable shelves and a spice organizer that I thought would help with my project.

... I then converted my spices into the spice organizer ...

I brought my purchases home and started working. I took everything out of the cabinets that I use for food storage. I washed out all the shelving and put my flour, sugar and cereals into the clear plastic bags that I had purchased. I then converted my spices into the spice organizer. Several of the older spices I discarded and started a list of what I needed to replace. With my new organization system I had an extra shelf left. The added space made the rest of the kitchen organization go very quickly.

Now that my kitchen space is organized I find that it does take me less time to prepare meals. My next project is to organize the linen closet and under the sink cabinet space in the bathrooms.
