Air Mattress

Racing fans are some of the most loyal fans you will ever find. I am not a race fan myself, but my husband is. He is in good company, too. My best friend and her husband are avid race fans as well. One year, they decided to pack a tent, air mattress and some racing gear and head to Bristol, Tennessee for its annual race. They also decided to pack me along, too.

I am not putting racing down or anything. I just don’t get why it is so interesting to some people. The cars go fast. They make a lot, and I mean a lot, of noise but aside from that, they just go around in circles. The only part that sparks interest for many onlookers is the possibility for a wreck. And no one really wants one to actually happen.

... I am not much of a camper to begin with, so the air mattress was an absolute must ...

In spite of my rant complaining about the sport, I decided that I would go on the trip. One of the things that helped me make a positive decision was the presence of the air mattress. I definitely did not want to sleep on the ground. I am not much of a camper to begin with, so the air mattress was an absolute must.

Even though the race itself was not very interesting to me, I did have a great time during our trip to Bristol, Tennessee. One of the things I remember the most was the air mattress. My friend, Helen and I watched our husbands struggle to assemble the tent. Once that was finally done, they moved on to getting everything in order.

... As they filled the mattress up with air, I said, “Are you just going to fill it half way?” ...

Their first order of business was blowing up the air mattress. As they filled the mattress up with air, I said, “Are you just going to fill it half way?” They said that it was going to be completely filled with air and I shouldn’t worry about it. I mentioned again that they want to fill it only half way and they both told me that they knew what they were doing. I told Helen to get the camera.

The men did fill the air mattress completely. They did this when the air mattress was out of the tent. I asked how the planned to fit the queen-sized air mattress into the tiny tent. They just looked at each other and shook their heads. They did fit the mattress into the tent, but they looked like they were trying to get a three-hundred pound woman into a size three.  The race may not have been entertaining, but the men were.
