How will a voluntary repossession affect my credit?

March 29th, 2009 — 11:13 pm
repossession
dimplefaceddoll2002 asked:

I took out an auto loan for my brother to get a car last Feb. He failed to pay, so I took the car back and have been making payments for the last three months. I’ve listed the car for sale several times on Ebay, in the local newspaper, and now on autotrader with no luck so far. I have a new car myself that I am also paying on. I don’t need two cars and I can’t afford to keep paying for two vehicles. How will a voluntary repossession affect my credit since I am paying for another vehicle? Will it repair itself as long as I am paying on another car? I know that the bank will auction the car. If I pay the deficiency, will the repossession still go on my credit? I have very good credit and I really don’t want to ruin it, which is why I’ve paid on the car for this long. I am in the market to buy a house. Will a repossession affect my getting a home loan?

My family, along with their company, is being sued for nearly $2M. We, along with the company, will have to file for bankruptcy. Does bankruptcy protect some of our cash to live on, and what assets do courts typically expect to be sold off to pay the lawsuit assuming all other debts are paid?

river59 asked:

Asset Acceptance is holding two small utility debts of mine. The statute of limitations has run out but they resubmitted the debt to the credit agencies as if they are new. Can they continue to resubmit a debt after the statute of limitations has run out? How do I fix this?

I am moving to Hawaii and it will cost so much money to have it shipped there. I am thinking about surrendering my car back to the bank, which financed the car loan. Is this the same as repossession? How would this affect my credit? I just got the car last year.

What is a good percentage of debt to total assets in personal finance?

March 22nd, 2009 — 11:34 am
debt
Claudio F asked:

I think that I would feel comfortable to have 30% of my assets in debt, but I never had debt before, so I am not sure about that.
For instance, if my total assets are $100,000, then I would feel confident in getting $30,000 in debt.

How can I get a debtor to remove a settled debt off credit report?

Kee Kee asked:

I filed my taxes today and included a 1099c form for a credit card debt of $10,107. Now that this debt is paid, how can I get the credit card company to remove this from my credit report so my credit score can go up. All of my bills are paid on time and I only have one debt left that is a positive on my report. My goal is to be debt free and buy a house this year.

Bankruptcy?

bankruptcy
come_on_kiss_the_gun asked:

I was just wondering what is the difference between Chapter 7, 10 13 bankruptcies. How did the new law that Bush passed now affect bankruptcies (or does it at all)? I’ve heard everything that you can’t file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy anymore to you have to take financial planning classes thereafter. Also, is it advisable at all? I know normally people say make it your last resort, but I am beyond in debt and do not have any other resolutions. Any horror stories after filing? Any positive stories? Please enlighten me.

thanks!
