What are some good decorating ideas for a Gothic/Fantasy theme party?

skyler asked:

It’s going to be a dress-up costume theme party. Think dark and dreamy. I need ideas for decorating (not expensive). If you still don’t understand the theme, it’s like fantasy, only not frilly and girly, more dark and evil. But not necessarily evil, just… dark. I may hav a fog machine I can borrow, or buy if I have to. It’s also a dance party, so my basement where the dancing is will be the main focus of the illusionary decorating. It will have a strobe light.

way_surreal asked:

OK-I know that I have asked this question or something similiar to it many times before, BUT, I want to be thoroughly researched before we start.

We are in the planning stage of builidng a new home. We have 2 children, ages 4 and 7 who are very active. We have met once with our designer and have basically come up with the fact that we want a 2-story Farmhouse type home. We are going to be building on a 200+ acre farm, and wanted to stick with the theme. I want to build as much house as I possible can within my budget. Does anyone have any suggestions on things that I can put into the house? Any suggestions on upgrades? Any suggestions on where we can find materials, etc. at discounted prices without sacrificing quality. I want this home to be something that we can live in and enjoy for the rest of our lives, and I want everything to be of top quality. Any info that anyone can give is appreciated, especially from builders! And for other, what do u have that u can’t live without?

Home Building 101: Basement Finishing Ideas

Hot Basement Ideas for Room Layouts

Your basement can be the most diverse area in your home. What should you include? Many people include a bathroom, bedroom, game room, storage room, and a home theater if your budgeting allows. If you need a place for your book collection or a spare room for your guests, your basement may be among your best bets. What are other ideas for getting the most use of your basement? Lets answer this question while ensuring we fit your personality and your individual lifestyle.

Library or Shelving

Basements are quiet areas. What a good spot for a reading room! Snuggled in your newly finished basement you now have the chance to enjoy your favorite books in peace and quiet. You still are inside your home just in case you are wanted upstairs.

Make sure your books are away from the window light to avoid sun exposure. Ceiling lighting is almost always needed inside the basement, so be sure to plan out your light fixtures to illuminate your basement lighting correctly. Mix strong task lighting with direct ambient lighting. Look over the light bulb packages and lighting fixture boxes at your supply store if you do not have the time to look up the definition of lighting and the lighting terms I stated seem like another language!

Movie Room

The movie room also called the home theater or entertainment room is among the most popular in finished off home basements. Proper Planning is essential before the basement finishing off process starts. Speaker wiring, cable wiring, and electrical wiring all need to be included prior to having any work done.

Wine cellar

Basements are often including the option of a Wine Cellar. Do you have a large collection of wine? Consider having something larger than a shelf for storing your bottles. Having an entire room designated for this very purpose is a very intriguing and fascinating idea indeed! It actually is quite simple to achieve adding this delicacy to your home. Basements are usually cool and dry. This is the environment needed to keep wines. Ideal temperatures range within 48 to 56 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in an area with a hot climate, you will probably need to Move Away. :-) I mean – buy an air conditioner or air exchanger.

Home Work Out Area

This area has cluttered many a basement that was just too small for including it. Often a membership to your local YMCA (No Affiliation so I Hope I’m O.k. with stating this in my article) “Y” “M” “C” “A”, the “y” “M” “C” “A” … O.K. enough singing.

When basements are large enough, you may transform basements into fitness centers. Basements including treadmills, or lots of fitness equipment, can easily fit into your space with the right planning. Home sauna’s are now popular in basements for when the work out is complete. They can be bought pre-made, equipped with your favorite C.D. or players, and use regular electrical outlets for power.

Recreation and Family Rooms

Living rooms in basements are wonderful areas to hang out. Keep in mind people also use this basement area for entertainment purposes. A separate family room will allow your family to engage in different activities and relax without having to worry about keeping it in Tip Top shape if someone should happen to stop in. If you have small children, a carpeted floor or rugs are ideal for a play areas.

Hope this helps – Sincerely wishing you remodeling success!

List Building and a Profitable Opt-in List!

March 5th, 2008 — 03:57 am
building
In building your keyword list, you want to “get into your customer’s head”. Therefore, you have to approach building a list with a tool like Desktop Lightning as a long-term process. Do you want to find out how the affiliate marketer mentioned above, started building an email list and stopped losing money? This site consists of a landing page to collect email addresses, a package of products that teach about building an email list, and a few pages with articles I’ve written about building an email list.

Building a profitable opt-in list does not just happen overnight. Building a mailing list for your niche market is a painstaking and time consuming process. BUT, if you want to start building a list quickly, here’s one technique that works. Find one or two in the areas of Internet Marketing you need help with:  SEO, Mini Sites, Affiliate Marketing, List Building, Google Ad sense/Adwords, Copy Writing, etc.

You’ll save time and money by building a prioritized list of those reasons, understanding must-haves and trade-offs, and using that list to spec, evaluate, plan and build a VMS solution tailored to your business. Building a mail list manually is not easy, it can be done, but you have to work at it everyday, adding names – addresses – phone- numbers etc, it is a lot of hard work, and it was just a pain to keep up to date, and then if you wanted to do a promotion it meant preparing a sales letter, then getting it printed, stuffing the sales letter into envelopes, paying for the postage, phew, it was a huge amount of work.

Building a list gives you opportunities to sell to the same customers over and over again. Start building your optin email list in an area in which you have some knowledge. If you’re a smart article marketer, you don’t consider your list building and article marketing project complete until you have thanked key online editors, and invited them to discuss other marketing opportunities.

Generating traffic, nor building an Opt-In list, nor is it finding products to market and it’s not a lack of Cash. JV Your List-Building: Small List – Ok, if your existing list isn’t large enough to warrant a cross JV mailing as described above, here’s a clever way to build your list up quickly. Your list is vital to building your business. The well known guru Mark Joyner has been known to sit back for7 to 9 months, building his list and cautiously targeting his audience, giving away freebies and bonuses.

Consider the double opt–in method you are in the early stages of building your list or want to increase to your existing list. Not only does building a website give you the opportunity to build a list, set you apart from your competitors and allow you to offer more value to your visitors, but it also (and very importantly) gives you the option (which you should take advantage of – by the way) of marketing more than just one affiliate product/program. There are many nuances and very effective initiatives that could be added to this list, as well, but these provide a good starting point for building stronger results. When you click through to the webpage you will see that I am building a list.

Beginning Your Seasonal Home Décor in Summer is a Brilliant Idea

March 2nd, 2008 — 07:16 pm

Start your summer right, by adding seasonal home décor to your to-do list

Utilizing seasonal home décor is a great way to add spice to your surroundings and a surefire way to garnish compliments from your regular houseguests.  In fact, one of the most popular home decorating trends currently is seasonal decorating, as it takes a dedicated creative person to come up with enough home decorating ideas four times a year on an average of every three months.

If you are considering seasonal decorating, the summer is a wonderful time to start brainstorming home decorating ideas as summer signifies a break for your children who old or young can help you create perfect summer home decoration ambience within your house.  Summer is bright, cheerful and a time for guilty free pleasure, so how some fun with your home as well!

Summer colors that will brighten your house to match the summer sun

The sun always seems to glow brighter in the sun, and your house should also.  Therefore, you need to look at your current interior decoration and use it develop summer home decoration ideas.  Bright colors are easy to come by, so when trying to create color scheme ideas for your home think bright and natural.

Baby colors are a great place to start as they are traditionally light airy colors, but not so obnoxiously bright as too clash with your current furniture and home accessories as well as your current interior decoration.  Summer lightness has no bounds, so you just need to pick colors that do not clash with each, and from there go wild with the colors you choose to use.

Adding your summer attitude to the interior decoration of your home

Of course, you probably cannot afford to replace your furniture and home accessories every three months as the seasons change, but in keeping with the attitude of seasonal home décor, it may be possible to add a few pieces to your home’s interior decoration.

As the season changes, you can take these simple changes and store them for next summer either in your attic or if you are lucky enough to have one, your storage closet.  For example, if your living room is white, you may consider replacing the traditional wooden mirror with a mirror encircled by the sun.   This way you can bring the sun of summer right into your summer home decoration.

Another easy way to spruce up the place is by adding summer flowers into all the flower vases around the home.  Take out the fake plants, and add flowers picked from your home’s landscaping such as daisies, lilacs, and roses.  Although it will require more maintenance to keep up with real flowers than the fake ones, this is a great touch to add to your seasonal decorating efforts because you bring the pleasant smells of summer inside creating a wonderful ambiance to your home.

Seasonal decorating should spark your house’s physical needs

As you change your seasonal home décor each season, this should remind you another three months have passed and that it may be time to address a few of your house’s maintenance needs.   Beginning your summer home decoration should remind you that it is time to have window treatments completed on your windows, as they are an energy saving technique.

With the bright, shiny colors and sunshine of your seasonal decorating, the real sun and hot temperatures is going to come meaning your air conditioner is going to start.  Seal your windows and make sure you are locking not only the bright cheery summer in, but the cool air you are producing as well.
